Why Use Knit Linens?
First, a knit fitted sheet is more "user friendly" than a flat sheet. A knit fitted sheet is easier and takes less time to install than a flat sheet. What's more, it stays in place during use and won't slide off leaving the patient laying on a bare mattress even when the head section of the bed or stretcher is raised.
Second, knit fitted sheets are more durable and hold up better to commercial laundering than fitted sheets made with woven fabrics. Woven fitted sheets typically rely on an elastic band around the bottom opening of the sheet to stay secure. This can degrade over time especially in a commercial laundering environment. Knit fabrics have inherent stretch due to their structure without the need for elastic components. This means that a quality knit fitted sheet will keep its stretch and stay in place after 80 commercial launderings.
Third, knit fitted sheets are more size forgiving. Many healthcare laundries and facilities have a variety of similar-sized mattresses they need to service. A knit fitted sheet is more able to accommodate a broader range of sizes than a woven fitted sheet due to its inherent stretch.
